[Kdrama] ‘Madame Antoine’ and ‘One More Happy Ending’ ep 1&2 ~ first impression/ opinion/review ~

I started ‘Madame Antoine’ and ‘One more happy ending’ with no interest and barely read anything about their plot. Outside the actors’ list there wasn’t anything special to attract me. In a way I watched these two dramas because everyone in the Kdrama world was talking about what they thought and eventually I also gave it a go.

After seeing the first two episodes, I wonder if I should keep ‘One More Happy Ending’ to marathon it later when the show will end airing.

For now everything is fun and bubbly, more importantly I miss the good old rom-com and this one looks like how dramas used to be around 2007. But if I am to talk about the plot, ‘One more happy ending’ is just the usual, 3-4 female friends and their troubles with men. Not that I mind but it can get boring. I’m not blaming on the drama, I’m at fault for this, I just get bored easily so that’s why I wonder if it will be better to keep it for later. The problem is that the story overall doesn’t offer anything more than the characters falling for each other and will live happily ever after.

The comedy is forced for my taste and the second lead is rather plain. Moreover the main couple doesn’t seem to have chemistry but it’s understandable, the drama is at the beginning, the chemistry will come as the story will progress. The first episode was nice and I thought ‘One more happy ending’ will turn out to be a good rom-com but the second episode was a bit boring and felt dragged.

As for ‘Madame Antoine’, it is way better than I was expecting. Both dramas are rom-com but I strangely liked this one better than ‘One more happy ending’. Sung Joon is improving, not much but he is. I hope he will get a handle of his facial expressions and what he wants to convey with his eyes. To be honest, I always said Sung Joon is lacking the ability to be a main lead and this drama is no exception even so I kind of like him here. Well, it’s not like the story is complicated nor he has a hard role to play.

For now I like the story of ‘Madame Antoine’. There is a clear line between how Soo Hyun (played by Sung Joon) and Hye Rim (Han Ye Seul) see their patients. She is looking at the human side while he is just watching from a scientific perspective and I want to see how they will understand each other in the future episodes.

Anyway, the way I see it ‘Madame Antoine’ is better. Acting wise ‘One more ending’ wins but there are some holes in this one as well. Regardless, for the first two episodes ‘Madame Antoine’ was enjoyable while the other drama was a bit boring and flat to me.
