“You Who Came From the Stars” is such a pleasant surprise! I wasn’t expecting to like it so much, still this drama can’t surpass my love for “One Warm Word” and “In a good way”, however “You Who Came From the Stars” is slowly following the other two dramas in my favorite currently airing dramas.
I was unsure if I wanted to watch it, at first – since I am a Park Hae Jin fan, I wanted to watch it, but when I saw the teaser something kind of put off my desire to watch this drama, eventually I started the first episode then the second and so on, to be honest I didn’t had any expectations, but for now, everything seems good.
The drama has the same pattern when it comes to the fantasy subject in Korean dramas, a man, Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) who came on Earth many many many years ago and lived here from the Joseon Dynasty until the present time. During the Joseon Dynasty, he meets a girl and saves her, in the modern time, 12 years before the present time, Min Joon saves a girl who looked exactly like the one from the Joseon Dynasty. Later he finds out that the girl he saved 12 years ago is his recently moved-in neighbor, a top actress named Cheon Song Yi (Jeon Ji Hyeon). Even though Min Joon doesn’t want to get involved in other people’s life or save people from all kind of events, he somehow ends up helping Song Yi in all kind of situations.
Lee Whi Kyung (Park Hae Jin) is Cheon Song Yi’s self proclaimed boyfriend and soon to be husband who is unaware of Yoo Se Mi (Yoo In Na) 10 years unrequited love. Yoon Se Mi is good friends with Song Yi, actually more like it’s a surface thing, since Yoon Se Mi who is also an actress but always left behind by others around her because Song Yi is more popular; she is put down by the drama/movie directors and other junior actresses. Although it’s the beginning of the drama, Se Mi will soon get feed up with being treated just as “Song Yi’s friend” and may end up showing her evil side.
While I was happy with what it seemed a rom-com drama, Lee Whi Kyung’s older brother, Lee Jae Kyung (Shin Sung Rok) appeared. This guy is a scary scary man aka a psychopath, and frankly a little too hard-core for a rom-com….or what it’s supposed to be a rom-com fantasy drama.
Aside from the tall and fine killer, Lee Jae Kyung, and from the fact that I’m not really into fantasy storylines, I like this drama and how the story develops….not to mention that “You Who Came From the Stars” is full of eye candies.
It will be a shame if Lee Jae Kyung will have a big effect on the whole story and the characters, I like the quirky characters of Song Yi and Whi Kyung, their funny personality make the show a lot more enjoyable and slice a lot of the normal drama tension. Min Joon’s stiff personality also gives color to the whole story, and as I already said it, it will be a shame if the drama will turn into a melodrama, considering that Jae Kyung is well…. a killer.
