Whoohoo! Another good drama, or at least so it seems until now, from my point of view of course.
I don’t want to be rushing saying that I already love this drama but since I (kind of) have faith in Lee Bo Young, Yoon Sang Hyun and Lee Jong Suk – I already love this drama.
Honestly speaking, I’ve seen Yoon Sang Hyun and Lee Jong Suk in a bit of comical scenes in other dramas, but since I’m used seeing Lee Bo Young having more mature roles, it’s refreshing seeing her as a rather comical but serious character.
First episode is the normal “introduction to the story”-kind of episode.
A drama about public defenders who take on the toughest cases with less than 1% chance of winning.
Jang Hye Sung (Lee Bo Young) is a bold, sassy, thick-faced, comical female lawyer. She is a prickly edge, sharp tongue who doesn’t have a bit of concept or manners and finds it hard to be enthusiastic about what she does. Cha Kwan Woo (Yoon Sang Hyun) is a serious, passionate and macho former police officer who becomes a government lawyer. Meanwhile, Park Soo Ha (Lee Jong Suk) is a 19 years old boy who has the ability or superpower to read the people’s minds. Together they will team up to solve the cases no one else wants, cases that only have a one percent chance of being found innocent.
The episode starts at Park Soo Ha’s high school when some classmates try to prank a girl (rather than prank, isn’t this bullying?), and since he can read peoples mind, he ‘takes’ the prank for the girl. After the little ‘event’ we get a slip in the past and see the 8 years old Park Soo Ha, sees how a man kills his father.
We also meet Jang Hye Sung, who according to Soo Ha, “She’s nice and smart. This world’s best woman.”… But in fact she has a pretty rude attitude – even in court.
Yoon Sang Hyun meets Jang Hye Sung at the public defender interview, they both think they’re the only ones participating in the interview, but later on, they find out that the waiting room they were in was not the right one….therefore RUN!!! To the other side of the building and find the correct waiting room for the public defender interview.
Because there were too many people for the interview, Hye Sung tries to approach the interview in a honest way….waaayy to honest!
Interviewer: Why do you want to become a public defender?
Hye Sung: For the money.
The judge that was interviewing Hye Sung becomes curious why did Hye Sung get expelled from high school. Hye Sung asks him if she will tell him, will they give her the job, the judge says if the story has an impact, they may give her the job.
Hye Sung tells her story: when she was in high school, Hye Sung was unfairly made to take the blame for something she never did. Because everyone thought Hye Sung hurt the daughter of the boss of her mother, and because she didn’t wanted to take the blame for something she didn’t do, Hye Sung and her mother got kicked out of the house.
A few days later, she waits for Do Yun (the daughter of her mother’s boss) to try and make Da Yun tell the truth. But the 2 girls witness a crime scene – the moment when Park Soo Ha’s father is killed. The killer sees Da Yun and Hye Sung and threatens them, if they say anything about what they just saw; he will kill their families and them.
Because of the shock and his young age, the court didn’t want to take the testimony of young Soo Ha so the prosecutors needed whiteness. After a couple of days, Da Yun and Hye Sung make a bet and go to the court to say what they saw. But at the court, because of fear, Da Yun doesn’t enter, and only Hye Sung enters.
After saying what she saw, the criminal jumps on Hye Sung to kill her (in front of the judges, prosecutors, lawyers …) and threatens her that after he will get out of jail he will kill her and her family.
After the whole incident from court, Hye Sung regrets going, thinking that the killer of Soo Ha’s father, will come to kill her and her mother in a few years – Soo Ha hugs her and tells that he will protect her.
This was actually a really good episode, and it seems that it will be a good story to start the summer drama season. Let’s just hope they will keep it up, and the producers and writers won’t screw everything.
PS: Anyone else happy because of the reunion of Ssun and Oscar? ^^
